    Star Lake had a modest beginning in 1964 as a small factory producing agricultural products. In the 80’s the company commenced its production of Monosodium Glutamate (MSG). In just over four decades Star Lake was to become a household name in China with over 2500 employees. In 1994, Star Lake Gourmet Powder Co. Ltd. was listed on the Shanghai Stock Exchange, now its code name is known as “Star Lake Bioscience” (600866) on the share market exchange board.
    The Star Lake product portfolio has developed from MSG to APIs, pharmaceutical, intermediates, food addition, feed additives, seasonings, etc. and the company grew to be the largest global manufacturer of Ribavirin,  Inosine, and L- Proline.
    We don’t only pride ourselves on our largest production facilities but also on our stringent and comprehensive quality control systems. Star Lake quality control systems and their regular testing of the products are performed using the latest technology and instruments such as the liquid chromatograph, the gas chromatograph, the infra red spectrophotometer, and the ultra violet spectrophotometer to insure the consistent supreme quality level. In 2001, our biochemical pharmaceutical factory was accredited with the cGMP certificate. In 2002, Ribavirin of our origin was approved by FDA, as well as the whole group obtained the ISO 9001:2000 certificate. Late 2005, the Bio-fermentation factory for L-threonine feed grade gained the certificate of HACCP and FAMI-QS.
    Star Lake also excels in new product developments, with 110 technicians working in test cubicles and laboratory condition for fermentation, decontamination and chemical synthesized.
    Our R&D center that meets the National standard also includes a post doctoral station, which is enjoying excellent cooperation with key institutes of higher education and technical research organizations in China.

History

    1964 Star Lake was born as a microbiological factory at Zhaoqing.

    1980 The original factory was renamed Zhaoqing gourmet powder factory.
Star Lake achieved great recognition and reputation in China and received many awards in food expos.

    1986 Inosine production started and soon Star Lake became the pioneer manufacturer of Inosine in the world and occupies 50% share of the local market.

    1992 Star Lake gourmet powder Co. Ltd. was founded.

    1994 Star Lake Gourmet powder Co. Ltd., the forerunner in the MSG business was listed on the Shanghai stock exchange.

    1995 Star Lake began the production of L- Proline and reached 50% share of the domestic market and become very prominent in the European, American as well as the Asian markets.

    1997 Ribavirin production started.

    1999 Star Lake started the production of Ribonucleotide and symbolized the end of an era where only Korea and Japan monopolized its production; soon it captured 50% of the domestic market and gained a good share of the world markets.
    2000 The whole group was renamed STAR LAKE BIOSCIENCE CO. INC. ZHAOQING, GUANGDONG. In the meantime, the code name in Shanghai Stock Exchange was also changed to Star Lake Bioscience accordingly.

    2000 A National Standard R&D center was set up.

    2002 Star Lake Ribavirin received accreditation from FDA of USA.
A post doctoral station was established in R&D center.

    2003 Star Lake started the production of L Threonine（L-Threonine） feed grade in the biofermentation factory.
    Star Lake Ribavirin played an important role in the worldwide anti Sars warfare.

    2005 The Biofermentation factory was accredited with ISOand HACCP certificate.

    2006 The Biofermentation successfully received the FAMI QS certificate
